Head Varsity Coach

Defensive Coordinator, Defensive Backs
 

Coach Cash is in his 11th season as the MVHS Head varsity football coach. He is respected in the state for putting together a highly competative program as well as the training of his entire coaching staff on how to mentor and grow young men in character and moral behavior for the bigger game of life.

Coach Cash has coached football for 24 years. Prior to MVHS he was at Sheridan HS. He played Tight End and Outside Linebacker at William Chrisman HS and Strong Safety at William Jewell College.

The foundational principle of Coach Cash’s program at MVHS comes from Proverbs 27 “As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another.” He believes that as the team commits to working out in the off season and giving every ounce of energy at practices, individuals are sharpened in athletic skill as well as in making wise decisions in and out of the class room.

Coach Cash is married to Susan and they have 5 children at home.

George Gardner

Varsity Defensive Line

 

Entering his 10th season coaching at MVHS, Coach Gardner is somewhat of the anchor of the football program. He bleeds green and gold and breaths the philosophy that the program is built on. In addition to coaching, Coach Gardner coordinates the strength and conditioning program and is the MVHS lead security officer.

Coach Gardner is married to his wife, Janie, and has 2 grown children.

Jeff Hoefs 

Scouting Coordinator

Coach Jeff Hoefs has been coaching Varsity defense at MVHS for the last four seasons. He brings 13 years of coaching experience to our program.

Coach Hoefs played FB/LB in High School. He graduated from CU and in 2006, he received his MBA and Principal license.

Coach Hoefs philosophy is that football teaches young men lessons that they will need in their lives. His aim is to help players become better than they were when they started.

Some of his hobbies include camping, fishing, playing board games, cards, and working on puzzles. Coach Hoefs’ wife Julie is his best friend. They have been married for 6 years and have two children at home.

Jason Herrera 
 
 

Varsity Defensive Line

This is Coach Herrera’s 4th season coaching with MVHS football. He was the JV Defensive coordinator for 1 year and has been the Head JV Coach the past 2 seasons. He was coached by Coach Cash at Sheridan HS while playing QB and Defensive End. Additionally, Coach Herrera has coached high school freshman basketball in Arizona.

Coach Herrera graduated from Metro State with a Human Performance and Sports Degree with an emphasis in Physical Education. He currently is a Physical Education teacher in the Cherry Creek School District

His motto is to work hard, play hard and have fun. He loves cheering for all Colorado sports teams, playing disk golf and running 5K’s.

Jerry Haberkorn
 

Offensive Coordinator, Running Backs

 

Offensive Line Coach, Jerry Haberkorn has been coaching MVHS football for 3 years. His last two years have been with the Varsity. The start of the 2010 season sees Coach Haberkorn taking the helm as the Offensive Coordinator, and working with the running backs.

Coach Haberkorn brings 15 years of coaching experience at many levels, from middle school to college. He has coached at Standley Lake HS (Westminster), Northern Arizona University (Flagstaff, AZ), St Josephs College (Rensselaer, IN), and Colorado School of Mines (Golden, CO), to mention a few.

Coach Haberkorn started at Pomona High School in Arvada, CO. He attended Hastings College, Hastings, NE where he played guard on the football team. His motto is easy as illustrated by his “KISS” philosophy: Keep It Simple Stupid.

Coach Haberkorn and his wife Jennifer have two daughters at home. His hobbies include football and summer swim meets.

Coach T.J Rubley

Quarterbacks

 

TJ Rubley comes to MVHS with years of professional experience and takes on his 1st season as the Varsity Quarterbacks Coach. He graduated from the University of Tulsa with a B.S.B.A. He was the starting Quarterback at University of Tulsa from 1987-1991, and finished his college career as 9th rated passer in Division I NCAA history. Coach Rubley played 7 Years of Pro Football: Los Angeles Rams 1992-1994, Green Bay Packers 1995, Denver Broncos 1996, WLAF-Rhein Fire 1997 (World League Offensive Most Valuable Player), CFL-Winnipeg BlueBombers and Hamilton Tiger-Cats 1998

Coach believes in the motto “Play and live in a way to make your teammates proud of you.”

Coach Rubley and his wife Julie have four boys at home.

Gary Klatt

 

Offensive Line

 

Coach Klatt enters his 3rd year with MVHS football. He coached the Running Backs during his first 2 years, and in 2010 is coaching offensive line. He is the father figure, chief mentor to the kids, and assistant coach where ever he is needed. In addition, Coach Klatt has been with the MVHS track program for 4 years as the Head JV Coach, and the past 2 years as the Head Girls Coach.

Coach Klatt coached football for 26 years at Pomona HS as the Head Coach, Def Coordinator, Off Coordinator and line coach. His son, Joel started as QB for 4 years at CU. Additionally, Coach Klatt served as executive pastor for 4 years at Foothills Community Church in Arvada, where one of his greatest joys was to perform 14 weddings of kids that he coached.

Coach Klatt’s passion in coaching is to take kids past where they think they can go, and watch their reaction when they reach their potential. Coach Klatt is committed to the MVHS program because of the high standard of moral values, behavior and work ethic that are expected of every player. He believes that a measure of a person’s life is the influence they have on those around them.

Coach Klatt has been married for 39 years to his wife, Rita and has 4 grown children and 6 grandchildren.

David Maas
 
 

 Offensive Line

 Coach Maas is in his 4th season coaching for the Golden Eagles. He spent the past 2 years coaching JV and 1 year with the Freshman with the MV Football program.

Coach Maas earned a degree in Elementary Education at the University of Wisconsin Eau Claire. He played Nose Tackle for the University of Washington- Eau Clair, as well as guard in high school. “The game of football is 90% Mental and 30% Physical. You do the math!” is the philosophy he employs when coaching up and coming football players.

Coach Maas enjoys snowboarding and riding his motorcycle. He has been married to his wife Katy for 1 year.
